Although Covid-19 has not been completely eradicated and a new monkeypox outbreak has raised concerns, a novel animal-derived virus has been reported in China. Henipa virus, also known as “Langya virus” (LayV), has so far infected 35 people in eastern China’s Henan and Shandong provinces, Chinese state media reported on Tuesday.
Wolf tooth virus was found in throat samples of febrile patients in the above provinces.
The virus comes from a family of viruses known to kill up to three-quarters of humans in severe infections. So far, however, none of the new cases have resulted in a death, and most have been mild, with patients experiencing flu-like symptoms.
Currently, there is no vaccine or treatment for wolf tooth virus, and the only solution is supportive care to manage complications associated with zoonotic diseases.

A study published earlier showed that the wolf tooth virus was first detected in humans in 2019, with the majority of recent cases this year. Chinese experts are still trying to figure out whether the virus can spread from one person to another, according to one Chinese expert. Online mail report.

Understanding the Severity of Wolf Tooth Virus
The wolf tooth virus belongs to the same family as the deadly Nipah virus usually found in bats. Nipah also spreads through respiratory droplets like Covid-19, but is more dangerous because it kills up to three-quarters of people. The World Health Organization (WHO) has listed Nipah as the disease most likely to cause the next pandemic.
