F1 set for 24 races, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi to end in 2023

Formula 1 will run 24 races, culminating in a double-header race in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi in 2023.

In a conference call with Liberty Media investors last week, F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali provided the first details about next year’s calendar, which is due to be confirmed in October.

The first headline was a record number of matches that reached the maximum allowed under the current Concorde agreement.

“Demand is very, very high,” Domenicali said of the interest in hosting the Grand Prix. “We can’t [say] More than we can say because of course we are hammering out all the details.

“For sure, we expect multiple games this year, but less than 25, that’s for sure.”

F1 will also overhaul its calendar to reduce travel for team members and other F1 staff, with more regional schedules expected.

“We want to keep the right flow of efficiency on a global scale,” said the former Ferrari boss in Italy.

The revised schedule will also “take into account the need to distribute the calendar around the world from March to November”.

One date leaked is that the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix will take place on a new street circuit in and around the Las Vegas Strip.

According to a letter of intent between Liberty Media and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, as revealed on Twitter, Saturday night’s game will take place on November 18, 2023.

Given Abu Dhabi’s traditional status as a season finale, F1 is expected to travel from the US to Yas Marina for the final round on November 26.

The conclusion is a bit confusing if confirmed in light of the goal of reducing the sport’s carbon footprint, but you go…
