Abu Dhabi: Malafi is the region’s first Health Information Exchange (HIE) platform, a strategic initiative of the Department of Health (DOH) in Abu Dhabi, which increases patient risk profiles as a New features that can be used on the platform. This feature predicts an individual patient’s level of risk for developing certain chronic diseases or suffering from acute events. The technology behind Malafi’s risk management solution uses advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology and machine learning algorithms to build predictive risk models based on emirate-level demographic and clinical data available in Malafi.

The UAE is moving towards attracting and developing the latest innovations in these areas to meet the highest health and safety standards in the community and to enhance its status as an attractive destination for investors and professional healthcare professionals.
In the recent past, predictive models have been used across multiple industries and in healthcare predictive analytics to support better-informed clinical decisions and the ability to deliver better quality healthcare and patient outcomes.
The Malaffi Patient Risk Profile shows each patient’s risk score with a list of prevalent chronic diseases such as diabetes, congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypertension; and acute events such as heart attack, stroke, and others*. Personal risk scores help clinicians make informed decisions and interventions to manage and prevent an individual from developing an underlying illness or hospitalization.
To identify at-risk patients, the solution currently leverages clinical data such as diagnoses, chronic diseases and laboratory results. To further improve accuracy, drug information will be added to the model in a future release. Malaffi connects nearly the entire sector in Abu Dhabi, including all hospitals and 2,000 public and private healthcare facilities, and provides over 7 million patients with access to 900 million patient records by over 45,000 authorized users,

Without major changes, these rates will increase further as the young population ages. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounted for 36.7% of all deaths in 2017. A cardiovascular risk factor screening program for all adult nationals was launched in 2008 as part of enrolling in Thiqa insurance. Individuals deemed to be at high risk are being followed. Education and awareness campaigns about risk factors; smoking, physical inactivity, unhealthy nutrition, and screening to control cardiovascular disease and its risk factors annually.
