Beijing, August 13: Chinese officials are planning to have President Xi Jinping visit the Southeast Asian country in November and meet with U.S. President Joe Biden, according to The Wall Street Journal. The visit comes after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan angered the Chinese government, which responded by launching military exercises around the self-governing island.
The visit will mark the Chinese leader’s first international visit in nearly three years and his first face-to-face meeting with Biden since the U.S. leader’s inauguration. According to the publication, preparations for the trip show Xi Jinping is confident in his fate at the biannual national congress scheduled for this fall, where he is expected to break recent precedent and demand a third Served as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

In recent days, when Pelosi visited Taiwan against China’s wishes, Beijing began holding large-scale military exercises while threatening to take over the self-governing island. The PLA’s Eastern Theater Command said it successfully completed various tasks in the recent exercise in Taiwan, effectively testing the troops’ joint combat capability, according to the state-run Global Times.
The Chinese military said it would organize regular combat readiness patrols in the Taiwan Strait.
