UAE to issue new generation passports from September 1

The new generation of UAE passports will be issued on September 1, authorities announced on Thursday. According to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), the new passports contain enhanced security elements. In addition, to prevent identity theft and “increase national and international trust in travel documents”, the UAE Cabinet approved new visual and technical security measures for passports.

What’s New in Next-Generation Passports

The passport owner’s identification page is polycarbonate, and the document uses an intricate spectral pattern. These elements provide greater security. The features of the new passports were revealed by the authorities in a video posted on their Twitter account. Additionally, it includes an excellent security thread and a 3D gravure that displays the user’s birthday. The passport also has a watermark with the UAE flag on it.

Next-generation passports will also contain very sophisticated security features printed with passenger images. In addition, the holographic logo integrates advanced features. Excellent security thread with better security and watermark with UAE badge is technologically advanced, etc.

Ali Muhammed Al Shamsi, chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, said that the next generation of UAE passports is a step towards achieving the government’s goal of strengthening the UAE’s identity using cutting-edge technology.

Can old passport holders use these new generation passports?

Holders of old passports can continue to use them until they expire, and can apply for a new passport six months after the current passport expires. To do this, you can use the UAEICP Innovation App or the website www.icp.gov.ae.
