Maddie Ziegler says she’s “prepared to fail” on “Dance Moms.”
The 19-year-old dancer and actress, who first rose to fame after starring on the Lifetime reality show from 2011 to 2016, recalls how the show’s producers forced her to act like a “kid” who won it all.
Speaking about the latest issue of Cosmopolitan, she said: “People think I’m a kid because in all my interviews I say, ‘I’m the best. I know I’m going to win. ‘” But that’s because the producers made me say that.
“I don’t think I’m better than everyone else. I just do what they tell me because I think that’s what you do.
“They failed you.”
Maddie, who went on to star in music videos as well as films and other TV shows for Sia, admits she’s “disengaged a lot” and that life has been less stressful from those stressful days.
She continued: “My age is more stressful than it was after I left.
“I was out of touch with that time.
“I would see the scene where the fans released ‘Dancing Mom’ and I was like, ‘I don’t really remember that kind of thing happening.'”
Despite having a lot of hard stuff to deal with, she did enjoy being on the show, which follows a dance troupe and their doting mother who compete against each other on behalf of their daughters.
She added: “It was weird because it was a really good time, but there were also a lot of things that were really, really not great for our kids.”
Maddie also insists she doesn’t consider herself “famous” and prefers to use the word “famous” because she worries that everyone will think she thinks she is “everything.”
