UAE customers can now pay for government services in multiple ways

UAE Ministry of Finance Customers can now pay for government services using a variety of payment methods accepted in the UAE, it said on Wednesday.

The Commerce Department said the move was in response to customer suggestions and requests, and aimed to provide customers with “easier, more flexible and more efficient payment methods”.

Customers can choose the appropriate payment method to pay for federal government services using common electronic payment methods such as Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, bank transfers, and direct debit and credit cards.

Over the next three months, federal government entities will gradually stop using the eDirham platform as a payment method for their services, the ministry said.

The Covid-19 pandemic has spurred faster adoption of digital payments, especially contactless payments, as awareness of the spread of the virus through paper and plastic money increases.

The UAE is taking several steps to boost its digital economy and take advantage of emerging technologies.

In the global smart city rankings released in October, Abu Dhabi rose 14 places to 28th out of 118 cities.

For the third year in a row, the UAE capital leads the Middle East in leveraging technology to improve the quality of life for residents.

Last month, Dubai announced the creation of the High Commission for Future Technologies digital economy Focus on developing industries.
