[ad_1]

bangalore [Karnataka]August 18 (ANI): Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding to establish an office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in the presence of Defence Minister Dr Ajay Kumar.

Ravi K, GM, LCA, HAL, HAL’s official representative in Malaysia, Major Mohd Husari Bin Mat Zain of Forte Drus, Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia, BN Reddy, Additional Secretary (Defence Production), Sanjay Jaju and others were also present.

The Malaysia office will help HAL develop new business opportunities for the Fighter Introduced Trainer (FLIT) LCA and other requirements of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) such as Su-30 MKM and Hawk upgrades. In a statement, HAL said this will strengthen India’s commitment to supporting the Malaysian Defence Force and industry to achieve Malaysia’s sustainable aerospace and defence landscape.

HAL has submitted a proposal to the Malaysian Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) in October 2021 for the supply of 18 FLIT LCAs under a global tender issued by RMAF. Malaysian authorities are expected to announce the final winning bidder soon.

As LCA Tejas met all the parameters sought by the RMAF, the chances of being selected in the tender were fair.

Additionally, as one of the largest producers of Russian-origin Su-30 aircraft, HAL is well placed to provide RMAF with the necessary support to support the Su-30 MKM fleet, which is facing low availability issues due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis. HAL can also support RMAF in upgrading their Hawk fleet. Other HAL platforms, such as HTT-40, Do-228, Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), etc., may be introduced by RMAF in the future.

Taking the above into consideration, HAL’s Kuala Lumpur office will be responsible for the marketing of HAL’s range of products and services, not only in Malaysia, but throughout Southeast Asia.

The office will also help increase the availability of existing platforms operated by RMAF and adjacent Air Forces in the region. (ANI)
