Airfare prices from India to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have soared as expats seek to return after an annual holiday in their hometown.
One-way fares from various cities in India to the UAE range from AED 1,500 (Rs 32,639) to AED 1,900 (Rs 41,343), travel agents said.
Indians find it difficult to return directly to the UAE, either because airfare is expensive or not available. Many of them choose to reach Dubai via other GCC countries.
“Many of them choose to travel through GCC countries such as Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait because of the low fares from Indian cities to these destinations and the good connectivity to the UAE.”
Khaleej Times quoted Bharat Aidasani, managing partner of Pluto Travels, as saying.
One-way fares from Indian cities such as Kannur or Mumbai to Muscat are around AED 400 (Rs 8,703). Afterwards, passengers can immediately take connecting flights to any destination in the UAE.
Meanwhile, airfares from the UAE to many Indian cities have dropped significantly compared to last month’s peak tourist season.
Flights from the UAE to India currently cost between AED 400 (Rs 8,703) and AED 700 (Rs 15,231). During the peak summer tourist season in July, fares range from AED 1,200 (Rs 26,111) to AED 1,700 (Rs 36,991).
On August 9, India’s national carrier, Air India, launched a special Independence Day deal at all GCC stations for travelers to India.
Flights from Emirates to major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai can cost up to AED 330 (Rs 7,180). Passengers can take advantage of this offer from August 8 to 21.
