Dave Grohl’s guitar used in the Foo Fighters’ “Monkey Wrench” music video is expected to fetch £30,000 at auction.
The former Nirvana drummer’s Gretsch White Falcon will take place at Gardiner Houlgate in Wiltshire, South West England on September 7th.
Originally owned by Grohl’s bandmate Pat Smear, the axe was played on Foos’ 1995 LP ‘The Color and the Shape’, of which ‘Monkey Wrench’ was the lead single.
The promo for the classic rock song, directed by Grohl, is the first to feature the late stickman Taylor Hawkins on drums, although Grohl is still playing the drums on the track’s recordings.
Undoubtedly, the instrument’s valuation has increased as it comes with a Polaroid of Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore playing a falcon, shot by Smear.
Luke Hobbs of Gardiner Houlgate said: “It’s a very exciting guitar because it’s one of the few guitars owned by the Foo Fighters, arguably the biggest rock band on the planet right now, to ever go up for auction.
“‘Monkey Wrench’ was the band’s breakthrough single and the first to feature drummer Taylor Hawkins, who sadly passed away in March of this year.
“I’m expecting interest from all over the world. The fact that it featured so prominently in the band’s iconic ‘Monkey Wrench’ video makes it even more appealing to collectors and fans.”
Meanwhile, Hawkins — who tragically passed away on March 25 at the age of 50 in Bogota, Colombia — will perform two special tribute concerts in London and Los Angeles next month.
The greatest musician on earth will pay tribute to the rock icon at Wembley Stadium on September 3 and at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on September 27.
Liam Gallagher, Mark Ronson, Josh Homme, Brian May and Roger Taylor will play the British capital.
While in California, Hawkins began drumming for him with Alanis Morissette leading a crowded lineup with Miley Cyrus, Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink and more.
Viewers who didn’t get tickets can watch it on MTV’s YouTube channel.
