A young man has been ordered to pay his friend Dh340,000 for the value of the friend’s car sold by the accused without his knowledge.
The complainant trusted his friend and gave his vehicle to him until he found a potential buyer. The accused then sold the car to a car showroom in Abu Dhabi without notifying a friend. He claimed he was the owner of the car and kept all payments he received for the car.
The complaint filed by the complainant seeks to pay him AED 340,000 (the value of the car) and 12% interest. He also requested an additional Dh30,000 for damages.
The man said in the lawsuit that he gave the vehicle to the defendant for sale because he trusted him as a friend. The plaintiff added that his friend convinced him to sell the car to a car showroom and give him the money.
But when he sold the car, the defendant did not give him cash. He instead kept it to himself.
The plaintiff provided evidence, including conversations over WhatsApp, in support of his claims.
After hearing from all parties, the Abu Dhabi Court of Family, Civil and Administrative Claims ordered the defendant to pay the Dh340,000 he received from the sale of the car to the plaintiff.
The court dismissed all other plaintiff’s claims due to lack of supporting evidence.
The defendant was also told to pay his friend’s legal fees.
