Minister S Jaishankar visits the ruins of the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi

The temple will be built on 55,000 square meters of land.

Abu Dhabi:

On Wednesday, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar visited the Hindu temple under construction – Abu Dhabi’s first – and described it as a “symbol of peace, tolerance and harmony”. S Jaishankar, who arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday for a three-day visit to the Gulf state, also praised the Indians’ efforts in building the temple.

“In Ganesh Chaturthi, had the pleasure of visiting the @BAPS Hindu temple under construction in Abu Dhabi. Great to see the rapid progress and deeply grateful to all involved for their dedication. Met the BAPS team, community supporters, devotees on site and workers,” the minister tweeted.

He also met Sheikh Nahyan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, to thank him for his great support for the Indian community, yoga activities, cricket and cultural cooperation.

“Auspicious start of EAM @DrSJaishankar visit. EAM visited @BAPS @AbuDhabiMandir site and laid the foundation for its intricate architecture. Also commends all Indians for their efforts to build the iconic temple which is peaceful, tolerant and harmonious Symbol,” the Indian embassy in the UAE tweeted earlier.

The temple will be built on 55,000 square meters of land. The structure will be hand-carved and assembled in the UAE by Hindu temple artisans. This will be the first traditional Hindu stone temple in the Middle East.

While in the UAE, S Jaishankar will hold talks with his counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and review the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
