ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif on Thursday announced the postponement of a visit to the United Arab Emirates scheduled for September 3 to focus on ongoing rescue and relief operations in flood-ravaged areas of the country.
“At the invitation of His Excellency the President, I was scheduled to visit the UAE on September 3. We have jointly decided to postpone the visit so that I can focus on the ongoing rescue and relief activities,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

He said Pakistan would always be grateful to “our brothers and sisters who supported us in this challenge”. The UAE has started delivering the first batch of relief supplies worth US$50 million to flood victims in Pakistan, the Prime Minister said.
He said in a phone conversation last night with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who assured the UAE will continue to help the people of Pakistan affected by the floods.
