EGA and Abu Dhabi’s HRA join forces to boost employment for Emiratis

[ad_1]

United Arab Emirates Emirates: Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company outside of oil and gas in the United Arab Emirates, today signed an agreement with the Human Resources Authority (HRA) of Abu Dhabi to further promote the employment of young UAE nationals in the industrial sector.

Under the agreement, EGA will train 23 high school students registered in the HRA database and interested in developing skills relevant to technical careers through EGA’s long-running national training program. After completing the one-year intensive training program, successful trainees are awarded a permanent contract for an operational role at EGA’s industrial facilities.

The HRA will continue to nominate additional candidates, and shortlisted UAE nationals will be eligible for the career counselling programme after successfully passing the company’s entrance exam and a personal interview held during an introductory seminar as part of the EGA’s national training programme.

Last year, EGA recruited more than 100 UAE nationals, 73 of whom participated in separate training programmes, including a national training smelter programme developed and sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Human Resources Authority.

HE Amal Nasser Al Jabri, Director-General of Human Resources Administration, said: “Signing the agreement with EGA is part of our support for the industrial sector to help keep pace with future job demands.

The agreement also strengthens HRA’s emirateization efforts by developing the competencies of job seekers according to international standards, further enabling citizens to find jobs while supporting their effective participation in the emirate’s sustainable economic development process.

“This agreement is a fruitful strategic partnership with EGA as we aspire to maintain the sustainability of the industrial sector and its competitiveness”. HE Al Jabri praised the EGA’s important role and its collaboration with the Human Resources Authority to support the emirate’s plans and strategies by creating jobs in line with the needs of the labour market. “The Human Resources Authority seeks to fulfil the leadership’s aspirations by strengthening institutional communication and partnerships between entities to invest in human capital and to build a team capable of delivering on the emirate’s development aspirations and for the creation, development of Abu Dhabi and prosperity,” she added.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, said: “As a company with a high rate of Emiratization, EGA is committed to creating jobs for talented Emirati nationals, laying a solid foundation for the country and contributing to the development of the UAE’s industrial economy. . . . We are delighted to welcome these ambitious Emiratis to the EGA and look forward to supporting them as they progress through their careers.”

EGA’s national training programme prepares young UAE nationals for operational roles in EGA’s smelters and industrial facilities. Since its first establishment in 1982, more than 5,000 UAE nationals have graduated from these programmes. Many have gone on to pursue long and successful careers at EGA, some of whom have reached the highest levels of leadership in the company.

Nearly 1,200 UAE nationals now work at the EGA. EGA’s more than 700 UAE employees are under the age of 35.

By the end of 2021, the EGA will focus on Emiratisation of around 40%. Considering the large number of blue-collar jobs in heavy industry, EGA has one of the highest rates of Emiratisation of any large company.
