[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi will host the Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers from September 18-25. The top two teams in the eight-team competition will qualify for the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

The eight teams participating in the qualifiers entered the tournament through different routes. Bangladesh and Thailand have reserved two spots for the bottom two teams at the last Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020 and are also the highest-ranked teams in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, behind the World Cup’s eight automatic qualifiers.

Scotland (Europe), Zimbabwe (Africa), United Arab Emirates (Asia) and United States of America (Americas) won their respective regional qualifiers, while Papua New Guinea emerged as the highest-ranked team in the East Asia Pacific region due to Covid-19 Pandemic, regional qualifiers had to be canceled.

Meanwhile, Ireland are the highest-ranked teams in the regional qualifiers that have not won their respective tournaments.

The teams are divided into two groups, Group A Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland and the United States, and Group B Thailand, Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea and the United Arab Emirates. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals. The winner of each semi-final advances to the final and next year’s World Cup.

All matches in the qualifiers will be played at the Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Centre, which houses both the Sheikh Zayed Stadium and the adjoining Tolerance Oval.

Host South Africa, along with Australia, the United Kingdom, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the West Indies, all automatically qualified for the World Cup based on their T20I rankings.
