First, Ravencox was mistaken for Beyonce at the US Open. Now, two other legends are mixed up.
After former tennis pro and analyst Mary Carillo identified Dionne Warwick in the stands as Gladys Knight, the internet has A day. Carillo’s colleague Chanda Rubin also repeated this mistake.
Both singers were in attendance to watch Serena Williams on Wednesday – and Warwick, who has become a Twitter star, made some fun of the scuffle.
“Hi, I’m Gladys Knight…I won’t take the midnight train to Georgia, I won’t walk over, but will pray for you,” she tweeted, along with a laughing emoji and a neutral face emoji.
Of course, she’s evoking Knight & Pips’ hit “Midnight Train to Georgia” and two of her own — “Walk On By” and “I Say a Little Prayer.”
Knight didn’t seem to care either, tweeting: “Dionne and I have been sisters for a long time and I hope she is as honored as I am to be mistaken for me.”
“I’m sure this was an honest mistake,” Knight wrote. “It’s such a blessing to see Serena’s greatness at home.”
Rubin also tweeted, responding to a Twitter user who said the mistake was “unacceptable.”
“Too bad I initially saw the pitch (Aunt Gladys in the stands) instead of the show monitor showing Ms Dion… Error corrected immediately,” Rubin tweeted .
