India’s Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE on cooperation in the field of education.
“The objective of the MoU is to further strengthen and expand the ongoing educational cooperation between India and the UAE,” explained the government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB).
“The MoU will be signed between the Ministry of Education, Government of India and the Ministry of Education, Government of the UAE.”
India and the UAE signed an original memorandum of understanding in education in 2015, but it expired in 2018. In 2019, at a meeting between the two countries, the UAE side proposed a new memorandum of understanding.
It will now incorporate the changes brought about in the Indian education system by the National Education Policy 2020. “This Memorandum of Understanding aims to facilitate the exchange of information, capacity development of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) staff, to promote academic cooperation between higher education institutions of the two countries to offer dual degrees, joint degrees and dual degree programmes, among other areas of agreement,” PIB said.
The new MoU will revitalize educational cooperation and increase academic mobility between India and the UAE, while facilitating the exchange of information to facilitate mutual recognition of these qualifications. “It also covers TVET’s collaboration as the UAE is a major job destination for Indians.”
The MoU is valid for five years from the date of signing and can be renewed automatically by mutual agreement. The Indian Cabinet has decided that, once signed, the MoU will replace an earlier MoU signed in 2015.
