They are wives and mothers, always heeding the call of duty, even if it means leaving the family in the middle of the night

Sergeant Amna Al Shehhi is a mother of six, but sometimes she has to leave her children because of one important task: keeping Ras Al Khaimah safe.
“I know that I may face all kinds of risks and dangers, but whenever I have to perform my duties, I don’t think twice,” Al Shehhi said.
She is one of 17 policewomen in Ras Al Khaimah who handle crimes involving women – from theft, brawls and money laundering to human trafficking and prostitution.
Whether it’s midnight or 3am, these women don’t hesitate to get up and wear the badge. They are wives, mothers and teenage girls ready to sacrifice their lives for their country.

However, their jobs rarely seem so simple. When they are out on a mission, they may raid dens or restrict gang members.
“At first, I was scared,” said Fatima Arnuemi, also a mother and a sergeant in the special missions unit. “I was involved in raids and arrests of traffickers, thieves and other criminals. It was scary, but it ended up being a normal routine, especially since we had intensive training on arresting suspects and how to keep ourselves safe. “
Another officer, Sergeant Laila Muhammad Ali, used to take on a more secure role protecting female VIPs during the event. Although she spent 14 years doing the job, she felt she had to do more for her country.
“That’s why I take training in raids, inspections and arrests. I want to be able to respond to the call of the country at any time,” Ali shared in an interview Cali era Wearing her uniform proudly.
By now, Ali’s family was well aware of her responsibilities, and sometimes she needed to spend the night away from home.
“Whenever I had to go out, they never objected. In fact, they were very proud of me, especially when we did it safely,” she said.
Fatma Al Saadi, who lives with her parents, added that whenever her boss called – even at 3am – she would hurriedly get dressed and leave the house without notifying her family.
“My parents are used to my job now. When I’m not in the room before bed, they know I have a task to perform,” said Al Saadi, who serves as co-pilot.
“They’re always praying that I get home safely,” she added.
In many cases, the women faced resistance, violence and assault, but they managed to protect themselves and keep suspects under control.
In the first six months of this year alone, policewomen have undergone 25 training sessions, providing them with the skills and expertise they need to carry out their tasks.
‘It can also be emotional’
In addition to the physical demands of work, Sakina Mohamed AlBlooshi says it can also be emotionally charged because they are dealing with women who are struggling in their lives.
“I used to sympathize with female suspects, especially when they cried and explained their situation,” AlBlooshi said.
“But after the training, I learned that my role is to protect my country from criminals who threaten national security,” she added, sharing that she had participated in raids involving at least 20 women.
AlBlooshi firmly believes that they are prepared to risk their lives in the fulfillment of their duties. “Serving the country is the mission in our hearts.”

Col Mohamed Nasser, director of the Ras Al Khaimah Police Training Centre, said that in their team, women are empowered to perform the same tasks as men.
“They are a fundamental pillar of police work and help strengthen the country’s safety and security,” he said.
For police in the emirate, the goal is to prepare female officers for a variety of crimes. After all, there are no men’s jobs.
