Dubai-based URB has unveiled the new Dubai Urban Technology District, which will be home to the most innovative entrepreneurs; a living laboratory where urban technological innovation thrives.
Located at Creekside in Dubai’s Al Jaddaf area, the Urban Technology District will create 4,000 jobs in green urban technology, education and training. With a gross floor area of 140,000 square meters, it will create the world’s largest urban technology center, according to a statement.
It will also serve as a home for venture capital, fueling entrepreneurs, empowering a unique collaborative urban tech ecosystem, according to a statement.
Urban technology will be at the heart of all future cities. The global urban technology market is estimated at USD 158 billion and is expected to grow rapidly over the next decade. Technology-driven urban development aims to provide solutions to the challenges posed by urbanization in various areas, such as zero mile food production, food security, affordable and scalable renewable energy, low energy demand water harvesting, zero waste management and waste-to-energy solutions. These are just some of the many challenges our cities face.
Baharash Bagherian, CEO of URB, the company behind the Urban Tech District, said: “Dubai is best positioned to lead the city’s tech transformation better than any other city in the world. The Urban Tech District will be the new global tech hub for urban innovation. Gross Floor Area At 140,000 square meters, it will be the largest urban technology park in the world. This will make Dubai a hub for urban innovation.”
The new district will offer conferences, training, research, seminars, business incubation and various amenities. The building will also offset all embodied carbon emissions it generates during construction and operations. As a net-zero carbon zone, the development will help reduce the carbon footprint of its partner businesses, enabling a low-carbon workforce, it said.
Innovation will be at the heart of the city’s tech district. The region will drive the development of urban technology solutions on a larger scale and provide investment opportunities for innovators addressing some of the most critical issues related to sustainable cities. The region will provide opportunities for new and innovative companies that need a platform to grow rapidly.
The area will also be home to the Urban Tech Academy, which will develop the next generation of urban tech leaders. The institute will provide opportunities to experiment with new innovations based on applied research, while promoting public-private partnerships, it said.
URB is a global leader in developing sustainable cities with a mission to accelerate the world’s transition to net zero. The company is headquartered in the Dubai Design District, with several hyperscale sustainable cities currently in the planning stages. –arab trade news agency
