exclusive: Thorns Entertainment Acquired North American distribution rights for this gripping historical drama Kent State From writer and director Karen Slade.The film will star Dermot MulroneyClancy Brown, Axel Henney, Christopher Backus, Christopher Ammanuel, Andrew Otenberg and Jacqueline Emerson.
Grandave International is handling foreign sales of the film. Filming of the photo will begin in Columbus, Georgia, in November, and is expected to be released in the United States in 2023.
Inspired by true events, the film tells how a family’s buried past fits with the brutal truth about one of the most important events in American history, when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on a group of student protesters, killing four Dead and wounded 7 May 4, 1970, at Kent State University. The film is told through the lens of two periods in Will McCormack’s life, asking not only what happened then, but why such events continue to happen.
“The Kent State shooting is a dark and pivotal moment in our nation’s history,” said Briarcliff’s Tom Ortenberg. “This is a story that needs to be told, and surprisingly never has. We look forward to bringing it to the big screen to educate and inspire young and old.”
The film is written and directed by Slade and produced by Quincy Morris and Kristin Moser. Executive producers include Jeffrey Aborn and his Duality Capital LLC, Kevin Beer of Beer Money Worldwide, Stanley Preschutti, Tom Ortenberg and Jessica Rose.
The deal was negotiated by Jessica Rose and Tom Ortenberg of Briarcliff and Slade, Moser and Jesse Weiner on behalf of the filmmakers.
