Mane Entertainment hosting Silky Nutmeg Ganachehe The “Category is… Silky Nutmeg Ganache Authentic” on September 9 at St. Robert’s Hall. Her arrival marks Mane Entertainment’s first on-campus presence celebrity show within three years. Ganache is an internationally acclaimed drag queen, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alumnus, Ph.D. Candidates and former college recruiters. Although she has toured around the world, she prefers to perform on college campuses to interact with younger students.

At 6 p.m., students sheltering from the rain arrived an hour early to grab seats at the meeting. Remi Feldman, a junior political science and English double major, played 20 questions with friends when she recalled seeing Ganache perform on TV a few years ago. “The resistance space is affected by very old resistance — [the drag queens] often thin and white, and [Silky] Say ‘F—it. This is my drag, I’m here to show it off.If you don’t like it, I don’t care,” Feldman said. “I like that energy. [onstage]. You know she’s having a good time. ”

Mane Entertainment encourages students to take part in drag performances, which prompted Andrew Simpson, a double major in advanced music and psychology, to debut his drag role Mira Mira, Mane Entertainment Marketing Manager. “It took two hours for my face. Then it took another hour to get all my clothes on,” Simpson said. “There’s no better time than tonight…it feels amazing. I look at myself in the mirror – and I think, ‘I don’t know myself. “Other than that, it was really uncomfortable, but every moment was worth it.”

At 7:30 p.m., Ganache, dressed in a jewel-encrusted blue fringed jumpsuit, long black hair, and silver lace-up sandals, greeted the audience to rapturous applause, but the microphone didn’t work. “We’re going to get this mic and this music because you all deserve it,” Ganache said. She competed in humor and beauty class with three microphones. Then, after reintroducing herself to the audience, she started her Whitney Houston playlist.

After the show, Ganache shared life advice in a personal Q&A. “It just shows you — when you’re gifted, you’re gifted, and I’ve been gifted to do a lot of different things over the years,” Ganache explained. “I had a talent for being a college recruiter; in my old lawn service days, I had a talent. I had a talent at the time. I was just a naturally gifted person.”

She talks about her journey to start drag, and the aftermath of two “RuPaul’s Drag races.”

Ganache underscores her advice by recalling her academic experiences—she encourages students to dig deeper into their talents. In college, Ganache first studied pre-med, but during her sophomore year, she realized she didn’t want to be a doctor at 50. Despite the problems of the students present, Ganache raised her own. “Do you have a narrow dream? Or do you explore? As a college student, I hope you understand that you should be able to explore by now,” she explained.

After the show, the winners of the makeup contest and the top nine students gathered to meet Ganache. Simpson didn’t win the game and intended to walk away and get out of the resistance, but was called to the stage. “Meeting her in person reminds me that this is a real person; they start where others start,” Simpson said. “Everyone has a different journey, but I feel like mine has finally begun. In particular, finally seeing Silk in person, and in cross-dressing [myself], which is so transformative. “
