Middle East’s first unmanned surface vessel arrives in Abu Dhabi

Fugro, the world’s leading geodata specialist, is transforming the maritime industry in the Middle East, bringing its first unmanned surface vessel (USV) to the region.

Fugro Pegasus, the latest addition to the Blue Essence family of unmanned ships, has arrived in Abu Dhabi and is ready to make its maiden voyage in the Gulf.

The 12 m class-built USV will be the first fully unmanned, horizon-transcending vessel in the Middle East with e-ROV capability. With its cutting-edge hybrid system, compact size and advanced satellite technology, Fugro Pegasus will set the stage for asset inspections by eliminating human exposure to the offshore environment and reducing emissions by 97% compared to traditional ship operations new standard. In addition, Fugro Pegasus can be stationed at sea for longer periods without the need for demobilization in port for crewing or refueling activities.
