Boxing fans in the UAE, the wider Arabian Gulf and around the world can now compete for the UAE’s first-ever world title – Dmitry Bivol and Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez’s historic WBA light heavyweight title showdown in Abu Dhabi seats.
Organisers Matchroom Boxing and DCT Abu Dhabi have revealed that tickets for the highly anticipated Etihad Arena match are now fully on sale, with local, regional and international fans judging by Russian champion Bivor’s victory over Mexican challenger Ramirez The title defense is full of expectations.
Bivor stepped into the Abu Dhabi ring after beating superstar Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas on November 5 to retain his world title and Extending his flawless undefeated record to 20 games.
Ramirez will face Bivol, who has won all five fights at light heavyweight, after the tough southpaw moved up the heavyweight division in 2019.
Tickets for this unprecedented event start at AED 295 and include a stacked hole card, limited VIP package including circus seating.
The historic Fight Night is the first event of Abu Dhabi’s new Champions Series, a landmark partnership between the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Matchroom Boxing.
Eddie Hearn, managing director of Matchroom Boxing, said something had to be done as both major event fighters put their perfect light heavyweight records at risk.
“In recent years, we’ve seen a huge demand for big boxing events in the region, so we’re determined to bring something special to the UAE, and boxing’s first world title fight in Abu Dhabi is undoubtedly special. Yes,” Hearn said.
“The UAE capital has a reputation for hosting some of the biggest sporting events in the world, and through our partnership with DCT Abu Dhabi, the Champions Series will only further enhance that reputation.
“Given the size of this massive fight, two undefeated fighters, a title, and global interest in this fascinating encounter, it’s safe to say that we expect Bivol-Ramirez to sell out quickly ,” he added.
The Championship Series is designed to provide fighting enthusiasts around the world the opportunity to experience world boxing championships in a new environment.
Showing global confidence in the UAE as a tourist destination, Hearn has said that the inaugural Championship Series will be the first of many future world-class boxing events to be held in the UAE capital.
Bivol and Ramirez will lock in the horns just weeks after basketball superstars and the UFC grace the Etihad Arena on Yas Island as the UAE capital hosts the 2022 NBA Abu Dhabi Games and UFC 280: Oliveira vs. Makhachev.
