Queen Elizabeth’s grandchildren made history as they held their first vigil for the late monarch’s grandchildren on Saturday night (17/09/22).

Royal cousins ​​Peter Phillips, Zara Tindall, Prince of Wales, Duke of Sussex, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn surrounded the late royal coffin, Lying in Westminster Hall.

Prompted by the sound of swords from the guards, after they walked towards the coffin, each of them bowed their heads in 15 minutes of silence in order to respect the Queen, who died on September 8 at the age of 96.

Prince William stood at the top of the coffin, his brother Prince Harry at the foot of the coffin. Both wore military uniforms at the request of their father, King Charles, who was wearing his uniform for the first time in two years.

Near William are Zara and Peter, children of Anne, Princess Royal and Mark Phillips.

Meanwhile, Harry stood beside Beatrice and Eugenie, and Louise and Severn, the Earl and Countess of the Children of Wessex, stood in the middle of the coffin.

This comes 24 hours after the parents of eight grandchildren held their own vigil.

Charles, Anne, the Princess Royal, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward stood by her coffin in military uniform, leading their mothers to a 15-minute vigil.

King Charles – who came to the throne at the moment of his mother’s death – was near the head of the coffin, while his siblings were placed on the other side.

Citizens continued to walk past the coffin in silence.

Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York’s daughters Eugenie and Beatrice appeared on the platform next to the coffin along with their cousins ​​Zara and Peter.

King Charles – who was seen arriving in the lobby just before 7:30pm – left the event by 8:15pm and the crowd outside cheered.

Members of the public wishing to pay their respects to the monarch have been warned they need to queue by 12.30am on Monday (19.09.22) to enter Westminster Hall before it closes at 6.30am, just a few The Queen’s funeral will be held at Westminster Abbey hours ago.
