Abu Dhabi crucial to Logan Sargeant’s chances in Formula 1: PlanetF1

[ad_1]

Logan Sargeant could play an important role in the driver’s market in 2023, but his performance in Abu Dhabi will be key.

For some teams, the last part of their driver lineup for next season is not yet in place, with teams like Alpine, Haas and Alfa Romeo all half attacking, and the other side of the garage, possibly from 2023, will still have one. Two new faces.

The same goes for Williams, who now looks like he’s very good after Nicholas Latifi’s poor performance at the Italian Grand Prix, where he was knocked out and overtaken by substitute team-mate Nyck de Vries. Changes may be made.

But while it’s understandable that De Vries has plenty of support and he could take over the seat full-time, he’s certainly not the only contender and he appears to be attracting interest from Red Bull. Sister team AlphaTauri.

Also putting himself in the fray is Sargent, a member of the Williams Drivers Academy, a program the Grove team has been building in recent years.

Since 2021, the 21-year-old Sargent from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, is in the standings heading into the final round of P3 of his Formula 2 season.

at the Red Bull Ring and silverstone Sargent has quietly put himself in Williams’ call-up range this season, though he can’t stop in the final round in Abu Dhabi, even if Felipe Drukovic The title has ended.

That’s because if Sargeant wants to get the super licence needed to get into Formula 1, he must rank no lower than P5 in the final rankings.

his fellow american Colton Herta fails to reach superlicence points need with Red Bull Keep an eye on him for the AlphaTauri car in 2023, so while Sargeant shows Herta isn’t the only American racer on the Formula 1 radar, he’ll have to get a superlicense to achieve a different result than his compatriot.

With 135 points tied behind the 126 points of Jack Doohan, Jehan Daruvala and Enzo Fittipaldi, Sargeant went into the final two games of the season very well.

Now, if he does get the top five he needs to get a super license, Williams would naturally place Sargent very high on their pick list.

After all, Williams is owned by American firm Dorilton Capital, and given Formula 1’s surge in popularity in the United States, it’s seen as a potentially lucrative opportunity for a team to get American drivers onboard.

However, team owner Jost Capito made it clear that Sargent’s marketing opportunities won’t be the main driver for his promotion.

Alexander Albon updated the floor and side boxes for Silverstone.UK July 2022

“So we’re not going to take him,” Capito confirmed to him Motorsport Network“Either we think he’s ready and capable, or he’s not. He could be in F2 for another year, or whatever.

“I think he’s ready. Yes, he needs some points. Of course, if he doesn’t get points, it doesn’t help. But, yes, I believe he’s ready, whether he can score or not.”

That being said, Capito confirmed Williams’ shortlist goes beyond Sargent if they choose to replace Latifi.

“There are a lot of drivers to choose from,” he said. “It’s a good option for young drivers, there are some more experienced drivers out there.

“So I think it’s a completely different philosophy, a different strategy.

“In a team situation, we can have a different strategy. “We’re not very ahead, so we need two very experienced drivers, so we can try it out and let the younger drivers come in. So we’ll see what’s best. “

Sargeant will have the opportunity to make his F1 debut on his home race weekend, playing for Williams during FP1 ahead of the 2022 United States Grand Prix.
