That being said, Capito confirmed Williams’ shortlist goes beyond Sargent if they choose to replace Latifi.
“There are a lot of drivers to choose from,” he said. “It’s a good option for young drivers, there are some more experienced drivers out there.
“So I think it’s a completely different philosophy, a different strategy.
“In a team situation, we can have a different strategy. “We’re not very ahead, so we need two very experienced drivers, so we can try it out and let the younger drivers come in. So we’ll see what’s best. “
Sargeant will have the opportunity to make his F1 debut on his home race weekend, playing for Williams during FP1 ahead of the 2022 United States Grand Prix.
