World News | Canadian Parliament Celebrates International Gita Mahotsav

Toronto [Canada]September 19 (ANI): International Gita Mahotsav is celebrated in Canada, during which Chandra Arya, Member of the Canadian House of Commons, highlights a bill to celebrate November as Hindu Heritage Month.

According to a statement issued by Bharat Sevashram Sangha Canada, Mahotsav was held in the Canadian Parliament from September 16 to 18.

The statement further reads that the next day saw a celebration at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga and the third day a Shobha yatra parade at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto’s downtown neighborhood.

Chandra Arya, MP for Canada’s lower house of Commons, Nepean, highlighted his private MP’s bill to celebrate November as Hindu Heritage Month at the event.

Arya said the Canadian government should recognize the contribution of Hindu Canadians to Canadian socioeconomic development and their service to Canadian society.

“According to the Mental Health Council of Canada, one in five people in Canada suffers from a mental illness each year. About one in five (21%) adults suffer from some form of depression, according to the 2021 UK Census In the United States, the CDC 2022 reports that 32.3% of the general population is affected by anxiety or depression,” Swami Advaitananda Giri, president of the International Meditation Foundation, said in the statement.

He further said that if 32.3% of the population had a serious mental health problem, such as anxiety or depression, then a serious problem would arise. “If 97% of the population is experiencing grief, then there is an immediate need to work hard to solve the problem. The Bhagwat Gita in life is the solution to this problem, people of other faiths go their own way and this is their solution.”

A video message of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Yog Guru Baba Ramdev was also broadcast during the programme. “Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are celebrating Gita Mahotsav at the international level since 2016,” the Chief Minister said in his address.

Consulate General of India Apoorva Srivastava, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, Streetsville’s Nina Tangri MPP and Malton’s Deepak Anand also shared their views. (ANI)
