In the actor’s first public art exhibition, Brad Pitt exhibited his sculptures at a lakeside art museum in Finland, the Helsinki gallery said on Monday.
Located in Tampere, Finland’s third-largest city, this is the first time the “essentially self-taught” American star has shown his sculptures to the public, the Sarah Hilden Art Museum said.
Pitt’s sculpture was unveiled by the actor himself on Saturday as part of a major exhibition by British artist Thomas Houseago and a ceramics series by Australian alternative rocker Nick Cave.
“It was a new world for Nick and me and our first entry. It felt good,” Pitt told Finnish broadcaster Yle at the opening.
Pitt’s work includes a molded plasterboard that “depicts a gunfight” and a series of house-shaped silicone sculptures, each shot with a different gauge of ammunition.
“For me, it’s about self-reflection. It’s about where I’m going wrong in my relationships, where I’m going wrong,” Pitt said at the opening.
The 58-year-old actor’s unexpected visit took the Nordic country by surprise, as he had not previously announced his participation in the exhibition.
“In that sense, it’s exciting and wonderful,” chief curator Sarianne Soikkonen told AFP.
In addition to hosting Pitt’s sculptures for the first time, this art exhibition is also Haus Yago’s first exhibition in a Nordic country.
Soikkonen said the decision to include his friends Cave and Pitt in his exhibit was driven by the pandemic and “events in Houseago’s personal life.”
