“He’s doubling down on putting more reservists into a dire fate. He’s desperately trying to get the cloak of democracy for a regime with no human rights or freedoms,” Truss added. “And he’s making more false claims and rattling threats. It’s not going to work.”

In response, Truss announced that the UK would spend 3% of GDP on defence by 2030 and would increase military support for Ukraine.

“As I said, new British weapons are arriving in Ukraine – including more MLRS,” Truss said. “We will not rest until Ukraine wins.”

Finally, Truss pledged to strengthen the UK by working with allies to secure supply chains and end strategic dependencies.

“We will not be strategically dependent on those seeking to weaponize the global economy,” Truss promised.

“The free world needs this kind of economic strength and resilience to counter authoritarian aggression and win this new era of strategic competition,” she said.

“Together with our friends and allies around the world, we will continue to defend freedom, sovereignty and democracy.”
