World News | Dhaka notes Beijing’s absence from Myanmar border tension discussions

[ad_1]

Dhaka [Bangladesh]Sept. 23 (ANI): China violates diplomatic etiquette, skips Bangladesh discussion of military activities on Myanmar border.

Dhaka did not take China’s non-response as normal. The Foreign Office said it had “noted” the incident. On the other hand, experts said they were not “surprised” by China’s stance on Myanmar, according to Bangladesh Live News.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called ambassadors and high commissioners of non-ASEAN countries working in Dhaka to inform them of Myanmar’s military activities at the border. However, the Chinese ambassador to China, Li Jiming, did not participate.

The meeting was held at Rashtriya Guest House Padma on Tuesday morning. The ambassadors of Russia and India were not present but sent representatives. Only China was absent, according to Bangladesh Live News.

In addition to EU member states, representatives from almost all countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Egypt, South Korea, Turkey, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Japan participated in the meeting.

Experts see China’s absence as a violation of diplomatic protocol. Meanwhile, according to Bangladesh Live News, they see the incident as a clear Chinese support for Myanmar.

An unnamed foreign ministry official told NewsBangla, “While almost all the heads of missions of the countries were notified within a short period of time, they or their representatives came.”

“However, we did not find any Chinese representatives. The ambassador may be busy with important work, but he can send a representative if he wants. We are a little surprised that there is no representative,” he added.

Although Bangladesh is part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and trade and investment are growing rapidly, Bangladesh refuses to be China’s lackey.

In addition, Bangladesh is suffering from unethical conduct by Chinese companies, as the country’s authorities have uncovered numerous cases of tax evasion by Beijing companies or their subsidiaries in Dhaka.

Chinese companies trading in Bangladesh have been engaging in tax evasion and smuggling, including cigarettes, alcohol and more. According to reports from Bangladesh, the illegal behavior of Chinese companies is causing heavy losses to Bangladesh’s finances. (ANI)
