JK Rowling’s death threat investigation linked to Salman Rushdie dropped by police | Entertainment

JK Rowling’s investigation into death threats linked to Salman Rushdie has been dropped by police.

The 57-year-old “Harry Potter” author was stabbed on stage while preparing to give a speech in New York in August, after expressing support for the author of the “Satanic Verses” after being warned by online trolls that “you is the next” city.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman has now told The Sun that investigations have been thrown into the threat as the offender lives outside the UK.

They said: “Following a report to police about an online threat on Saturday 13 August 2022, the matter has been investigated and it has been determined that it was carried out in the UK.

“The investigation is now complete and there is no further police action at this time.”

After Salman was stabbed, JK said online: “Scary news. Feeling very uncomfortable right now. Let him be alright.”

A Twitter user named Meer Asif Asiz replied: “Don’t worry, you’re next.”

JK shared a screenshot of the threat and told fans: “Police involved (already involved in other threats.)”

The writer has been at the center of hatred and threats after she voiced her support for women-only spaces, which led to her being accused of transphobia, which she denies.

She said last month that social media was a “gift” to her online trolls, telling Graham Norton on Virgin Radio UK: “Social media can be fun and I love the pub debate aspect of it. It could be a interesting thing.

“But there’s no question that social media is a gift to those who want to behave in malicious ways.”

JK’s house was targeted by anti-transgender protesters last year after her home address was posted online by internet trolls.

She added: “I try to act like I want everyone else online. I’ve never threatened anyone overtly, and I certainly don’t want anyone going to their house or anything like that.”
