As the weather turns cooler, my thoughts turn to warmer climates, Travel consultant Emma Savage writes.
Fall and winter vacations mean flying farther to reach the sun, but where should you go?
Well, if you’ve been to Dubai and want a change from the Caribbean, how about going to Abu Dhabi?
This emirate might not immediately come to mind when you think of an independent resort, but it has a lot to offer; from white sandy beaches and azure blue skies to many luxury hotels and all-important guaranteed heat.
Not only that, but it also has an array of great attractions to attract tourists.
Getting to Abu Dhabi is very easy, with direct flights from London and Manchester taking around 7 hours, so it compares favorably to flight times to the Caribbean and Dubai.
Abu Dhabi’s attractions include the Louvre, a mesmerizing place to spend time with over 600 works of art spread across 23 galleries. There’s also the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque; ranked in the top three of TripAdvisor’s top landmarks, housing 40,000 worshippers; if you want to take a look inside and marvel at the scale, you can visit here for free. Warner Bros. World has a theme park in Abu Dhabi with 6 immersive parks, 29 rides and live entertainment. Or why not head to Ferrari World, which offers fun for all the family and has the fastest roller coaster in the world?
Beaches are a highlight of Abu Dhabi. The city’s seafront area has an 8km promenade where you’ll find bars, restaurants, children’s play areas and beaches.
Alternatively, Yas Beach is pristine and offers some great facilities including a shaded children’s paddling pool, sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding. There’s also a trendy beach club with DJs and an infinity pool.
Finally, Saadiyat Beach is a 9km stretch of perfect white sand where, in addition to relaxation, you can try eco-friendly water sports and yoga. If your budget allows, check out Nurai Island, a private island resort accessible by speedboat from Saadiyat Island. Here you can stay in villas with pools and personal butlers, and enjoy fine dining from celebrity chefs.
Abu Dhabi is constantly evolving, bringing new and exciting experiences to visitors; for example, in a hotel above the Grand Prix circuit, where else can you stay? At W Abu Dhabi, it’s here! And, soon to open is a 2.8 million square foot retail area with more than 450 stores and 85 restaurants – they won’t stop here!
