Abu Dhabi Council of Women Entrepreneurs launches new board

Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has established a new board for the Abu Dhabi Women Entrepreneurs Council (ADBWC) to help women entrepreneurs increase their contribution to the emirate’s economy.

The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce said in a statement on Sunday that the committee’s mandate is to help women upskill and inform them about applicable laws and policies.

It will also aim to help women entrepreneurs learn how to benefit from local and federal government initiatives and incentives.

The new ADBWC Board is chaired by Asma Al Fahim and includes Nour Al Tamimi, Khadija Al Ameri, Marwa Al Mansouri and Sheikha Al Nuwais.

“Over the past 50 years, the UAE has empower women And support Emirati women as key partners in building the UAE,” Ms Al Fahim said.

The UAE, the Arab world’s second largest economy, is keen to increase women’s participation in the workforce and has launched programmes to support female entrepreneurs, promote their leadership in the workplace, and Improve their representation on company boards.

Women currently hold 27 percent of the cabinet, and the UAE has nine female ministers, Sheikha Fatima, the mother of the nation and honorary chairman of the ADBWC, said in August.

Women also make up 30% of the total workforce in the diplomatic service, 64% in the education and healthcare sectors, 23,000 women entrepreneurs manage projects in the UAE worth more than AED50 billion ($13.6 billion), she said at the time.

Ms Al Fahim said ADBWC remained keen to increase “communication with Abu Dhabi women entrepreneurs” to keep them abreast of the latest economic changes.

She added that the council will roll out its own initiatives and programmes to support the business environment and provide entrepreneurs with the means to benefit from business opportunities in local, regional and international markets.
