Wynonna Judd says she “failed” rehearsing for the tour without her late mum Naomi.
The 58-year-old singer has hit the road publicly for the first time since compatriot Naomi, 76, committed suicide in April.
Page 6 on Sunday (02/10/22) quoted Wynonna in an interview on the tour bus saying: “It’s very beautiful to go back in time and relive some of those memories.
“I was rehearsing yesterday and there was a part of the show where they had mom sing with me. Then I turned around and I lost it.”
Wynonna added that when she recently visited the hospital outside Nashville, where her mom passed away, she noticed a picture of her on the wall with volunteers.
She said: “There’s a picture of my mom wearing the cutest little wig and her name tag, ‘Naomi Judd’.”
The Judds tour was announced just a few weeks before Naomi’s suicide on April 30 — 24 hours after they were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Now at the helm of Wynonna and a host of special guests, the 11-city tour kicks off Friday night (30.09.22) in Grand Rapids, Michigan and will include tours in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Fort Worth, Texas The previous stops in Texas and Nashville ended in their hometown of Lexington, Kentucky.
Guests included Brandi Carlile, Ashley McBryde, Little Big Town, Kelsea Ballerini, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill and Martina McBride.
Naomi’s husband of nearly 30 years, Larry Strickland, told Page Six about his late wife: “I’m in trouble now just looking at her pictures. I don’t Know how much I can take.
“She loves to sing on stage. She loves people. She’ll do her twists and spins. She’s a harmony singer. All she cares about is her hair and the little skirt she’ll do.
Naomi’s actress daughter Ashley, 54, recalls how her mom walked around in her bra with $20 and $50 bills and handed them out to people on the street, especially women.
Wynonna has previously said she was “incredibly angry” that Naomi took her life.
Naomi’s toxicology report revealed she had several different drugs in her system at the time of her suicide, including those used to treat insomnia, Parkinson’s disease, depression and seizures.
