The new ‘work exploration visa’ is one of the entry permits announced as part of the UAE’s advanced visa system, which came into effect today, 3 October. Khaleej Times can now reveal about the new license, validity options, eligibility criteria and procedures to obtain it.
Previously, job seekers would come to work on a regular tourist visa.
The new single-entry permit aims to attract young talents and skilled professionals to explore employment opportunities in the country. What’s more, it doesn’t require sponsors or moderators.
qualified
The UAE government had earlier announced that the visa will be granted to persons belonging to the first, second or third skill level, as stipulated by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Fresh graduates of Fortune 500 universities can also apply. The minimum education level should be a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
3 validity options
According to information available on the Federal Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) website, Single Entry Permits are issued for terms of 60, 90 and 120 days.
That means people looking to move their bases to the UAE have up to four months to explore the job market here.
where to apply
Individuals can apply for a new entry permit on the ICP website, customer service centres or accredited typing centres.
needed file
Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport, a colour photo and a notarised certificate of eligibility for services. Additional documentation may be required.
Why the new visa is important
Experts earlier told Khaleej Times that the new entry permit will make it easier for job seekers to enter the country to find work.
“We would like to see more expats coming to the country and settling here while looking for work. Job seekers who are already settled ‘on the ground’ and can meet potential employers are at an advantage.
Compared to those currently abroad, those here improve their chances of being interviewed and eventually hired, as it shows commitment to the UAE and the employer is less ‘risky’ than those currently abroad ,” said Sarah Dixon, Managing Director of Hays Middle East.
Mayank Patel, Adecco’s head of Middle East, said the license will give job seekers additional time “to not only fully prepare themselves, but also to seek additional support from the employer of choice.”
Business Entry Visa
Another type of entry permit now available is the permit for investment opportunities. Single entry visas are valid for 60, 90 or 120 days.
It does not require sponsors or hosts and encourages investors and entrepreneurs to explore business and investment opportunities in the UAE.
