Sharjah – Enhancing the capacity of its four square kilometer integrated waste management complex, BEEAH Recycling, the pioneering waste treatment and material recovery business of the BEEAH Group, has launched a new recycling facility.
The Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Waste Recovery Facility is the tenth and latest addition to the BEEAH Recycling waste management complex, and aims to help Sharjah achieve 100% landfill waste diversion this year.
The C&I recycling facility, the first of its kind in the region, is equipped with robotics and artificial intelligence systems to automatically detect, identify and separate different types of waste. It will complement the waste disposal efforts at BEEAH Recycling’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF), the largest of its kind in the Middle East and the third largest in the world.
Previously, the MRF was the primary location for the separation of mixed recyclables in BEEAH Recycling’s waste management complex. With the addition of C&I recycling facilities powered by artificial intelligence and robotics, BEEAH Recycling will increase material recovery efficiency and increase landfill waste diversion.

Daker El-Rabaya, CEO of BEEAH Recycling, said of the recycling facility: “By using robotics and artificial intelligence, C&I facilities can process waste faster and more efficiently and recover materials from mixed recyclables to reintroduce the economy “We are setting new benchmarks not only in enhancing the capabilities of our complex, but also in how to recover valuable materials from waste in a time, labor and cost saving manner.”
El-Rabaya highlighted that more than a dozen different types of materials will be recovered from the C&I recycling facility, including aluminum, HDPE, plastic auto parts, wood, tires, PET, polypropylene containers and sacks, paper and cartons, metal and mixed films. Commercial residues from the C&I recycling facility will be sent to a nearby solid recovered fuel (SRF) facility, which BEEAH Recycling launched last month. At SRF, commercial residues will be converted into alternative green fuels.
“Combining our new C&I facility with the SRF facility, we have shown that integrated waste treatment can advance our goal of sending zero waste to landfill for the first time in the Middle East. At the same time, we are creating dual value; from recycled materials and Waste-derived fuel,” El-Rabaya added.
At full capacity, the industrial and commercial recycling facility will process approximately 156,000 tons of mixed recyclables per year, which equates to approximately 500 tons of waste per day.
This level of productivity is supported by the plant’s integrated artificial intelligence and robotics system, which can identify, sort and produce bags of plastic, paper, aluminum, lightweight and oversized residues, and other materials. Using robotics and AI vision, the system sets a global benchmark for automated recycling of recyclables. Sharjah has achieved a waste diversion rate of 76% so far, supported by BEEAH Recycling’s award-winning waste management complex.
The C&I and SRF facility adds eight other waste treatment facilities in the BEEAH Recycling waste management complex, including a material recovery facility for mixed recyclable materials, a recycling center for automotive and automotive metals, an industrial wastewater treatment plant for industrial wastewater, buildings and Demolition waste facilities for construction site debris, biomass facilities for cellulose and carbon-based waste, alternative raw materials facilities for marine litter, sewage and oil spills, tire recycling facilities for used tires, and biohazard Medical waste treatment facility medical waste. Now with 10 facilities in its waste management complex, BEEAH Recycling will steadily increase the rate of landfill waste diversion in the Emirate of Sharjah to achieve 100% landfill waste diversion by the end of 2022, making it the first cities in the Middle East achieve zero waste to landfill.
