UAE Ministry partners with Cisco to boost national digital economy

UAE Minister of State’s Office artificial intelligencethe digital economy and remote work app has signed a preliminary agreement with US tech company Cisco that will support the UAE in advancing its digital transformation and economy.

The agreement will foster cooperation between the public and private sectors, emphasizing development SMEs The California-based company said Thursday that it introduced a national training program to develop a new generation of digital workforces.

The deal is part of Cisco’s National Digital Acceleration (CDA) program in the UAE.

Omar Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, said the UAE’s position as a hub for digital advancement requires focusing on key areas “to create a positive leading future”.

“These pillars include harnessing the power of emerging technologies in key industries, developing digital skills and talent, and adopting innovative approaches in work models, in line with the UAE’s well-being priorities,” he said.

“Our aim is to advance the UAE’s digital journey, which will be driven in a way where privacy and security come first.”

With the emergence of emerging technologies that will shape the future of the economy, digital transformation is becoming an important part of government strategies.

In April, the UAE Cabinet approved a Digital Economy Strategy It aims to increase the digital economy’s contribution to the country’s non-oil GDP to nearly 20% over the next 10 years, up from 9.7% in 2021.

In August, the Cabinet also approved the establishment of the Government’s High Commission on Digital Transformation, of which Mr Al Olama is Vice-Chairman, as the country advances plans to utilize future technology.

Dubai also recently announced the establishment of the High Commission for Future Technologies and digital economy, Its mission is to “promote Dubai’s supremacy in the global digital economy”.

The agreement between the UAE and Cisco focuses on developing new work environments and integrating hybrid jobs in key industries such as healthcare, education and public services.

It also aims to promote national infrastructure to support the fundamental services the UAE needs to accelerate its digital transformation, such as the smart city and cybersecurity roadmap, and leverage Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.

In October last year, the UAE launched its Industry 4.0 initiative, which aims to boost productivity and the development of innovative products, increasing manufacturing by 30 percent and adding $6.8 billion to the national economy by 2031.

“The UAE’s visionary leadership has made the country one of the most prosperous, by pioneering in the new digital age,” said Reem Asaad, vice president of Cisco Middle East and Africa.

Launched in 2018 in the UAE, the CDA programme has launched more than 15 projects so far, including remote consultation services, AI-enabled smart classrooms and digital concept stores.
