India beat Bangladesh by 59 to advance to the semi-finals in the Asian Women’s Cup in Sylhet, Bangladesh, on Saturday.

When choosing to bat, Shafali Verma had a 55 with just 44 balls, while an in-form Jemimah Rodrigues had an unbeaten 35 with a long game , India shot 159 or 5.

Shafali and substitute captain Smriti Mandhana (47 over 38 balls) added 96 points in the opening match, while Jemimah and Deepti Sharma (10) added 29 points in just 2.3 overs.

The Indian bowlers then defended the goal with ease, limiting the hosts to seven out of 100. Captain Nigal Sultana scored the most with 36, while Faghana Hawke scored 30.

For India, Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma took two wickets each.

Meanwhile, the UAE will take on Pakistan in their next match on Sunday.

“It’s just a matter of getting more game practice and getting those games. I don’t think we’ve done a bad job. I just think with this experience we’ll know what we need to do for further games. So, this It’s just about pushing further and taking all the lessons from this match,” UAE all-rounder Natasha Cherias said after losing to Thailand in the previous match.

Asked if the UAE still had any hope of reaching the semi-finals, Natasha said: “Of course. Why not? We’re not here just to play. We’re here to do our best and make the best of UAE cricket. Make a statement. We may be young” but we are very talented and we are here to learn everything we can. So, we will give more than 100% in the next two games. “
