Abu Dhabi Clean Energy Certificate has a say in sustainability

[ad_1]

EWEC believes in the “power of everyone” and “brainstorming ideas for success”. Through collaboration, different perspectives are welcomed and encouraged, silos are broken down, business objectives are achieved, and collective efforts make valuable contributions to the continued growth, development and diversification of the UAE energy sector.

EWEC has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) to further enable Abu Dhabi companies across industries to support and promote their own and the government’s sustainable development goals.

EWEC’s partnership agreement with ADDED promotes sustainability best practices and the adoption of Clean Energy Certificates (CECs) in the emirate’s industrial sector, while also enhancing the competitiveness of the emirate’s energy sector.

The agreement builds on and demonstrates the effectiveness of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy’s (DoE) CEC regulatory policy – a strategic policy to support the decarbonisation of Abu Dhabi’s electricity value chain. CEC is a proven means of supporting long-term clean energy production and consumption, reducing corporate carbon footprints and fostering ecosystems that deliver on environmental sustainability commitments.

Abu Dhabi’s business community has responded positively, with EWEC’s CEC auctions being held from 2021, attracting a growing number of cross-sector companies, welcoming the opportunity to reduce energy consumption and enhance their sustainability credentials.

Through CEC, EWEC is driving the competitiveness of the emirate’s energy sector with a view to embedding best practices in sustainable development and encouraging new, innovative solutions to energy challenges.

As a testament to CEC’s success and positive acceptance, EWEC has established clean energy partnerships with entities and companies across a wide range of industries, enabling them to participate in this innovative sustainability program. Importantly, EWEC is partnering with ADNOC, which will see up to 100% of its grid power be supplied by EWEC’s renewable and clean energy. Another example is Aldar Properties, whose partnership will see Aldar-owned and managed operating assets powered 100% by EWEC’s clean energy for a period of five years.

As Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE pursue a net-zero future, EWEC will continue to play a leading role in decarbonisation in the years and decades to come. From promoting sustainable practices and developing innovative solutions to launching joint ventures and driving sustainable economic development, EWEC has already made important contributions to the long-term sustainability of the UAE. Collaboration will always be a key driver of progress, achievement and achievement.
