Beijing [China]Oct 16 (ANI): Chinese leader Xi Jinping opened the ruling Communist Party’s biannual national congress on Sunday, state media said.

According to the Global Times, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China opened at 10 a.m. in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The week-long event will end on October 22nd.

The qualifications of 2,296 delegates to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China have been confirmed and valid, Congress spokesman Sun Yeli said at a news conference on Saturday.

He added that these representatives will attend the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, representing more than 96 million party members and more than 4.9 million grassroots party organizations.

China’s most important political event in 2022 and the next five years will kick off on October 16 at the 20th National Congress of the ruling Communist Party and its 90 million members.

Regional experts say President Xi Jinping’s term will undoubtedly be extended for another five years.

He will either be re-elected as general secretary of the CCP or will be newly elected as chairman of the CCP, a title that has lain dormant since 1982 and was once the highest position ever held by Mao Zedong.

The congress comes at one of the most dangerous times in international affairs in recent years. A war is raging in Ukraine as President Vladimir Putin tries to elevate his status as the leader of the great Russia, and China remains a staunch supporter of the potential tsar.

Meanwhile, tensions in the Taiwan Strait are at their highest level in decades as China tries to get Taipei’s acquiescence.

In addition, diplomatic tensions with the United States, the aftermath of the global pandemic, and China’s own paranoid efforts to stamp out COVID-19, and all elements of the brewing storm, are present. (ANI)
