Abu Dhabi unveils digital twin project at Gitex Expo

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) launched the Abu Dhabi Digital Twin project today (12 October) at the ongoing Gitex Technology Week 2022.

Announcing the details of the project, DMT said the project, the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi, was designed to showcase a comprehensive and accurate representation of the emirate, including the building’s exterior shape.

In addition to supporting the real estate market and highlighting the emirate’s landmarks, the project provides details of the interior structure to enable the building’s interior navigation to support emergency response speed and support the planning and decision-making process.

DMT is part of the Abu Dhabi Government Pavilion, home to 30 government departments, at the event showcasing initiatives and programs to improve services and life in the emirate.

Through the Abu Dhabi Digital Twin project, DMT said it will be able to use 3D augmented reality to facilitate and support decision-making processes, a qualitative leap forward in the development of digital and geographic information systems in the emirate.

DMT noted that the project integrates state-of-the-art technologies such as aerial photography, lidar scanning and game engines.

It aims to promote the foundations and concepts of smart cities and initiate and integrate augmented digital reality and metaverse for the emirate in accordance with the highest international standards.

Dr Omar Al Shaiba, Acting Executive Director, Information Technology Affairs, DMT, said: “Our participation in Gitex provides insight into the sector’s pioneering digital projects that are helping to improve the quality of life in the emirate, in line with Abu Dhabi’s commitment to making the emirate a global Leadership in economic and industrial investment magnets.”

“By using 3D modeling to create a complete visualization of the emirate, the Abu Dhabi digital twin project facilitates data analysis, facilitates decision-making, monitors the appearance of the emirate’s cities, and uses virtual reality to highlight the most striking locations to the public,” he added. Say.

According to the DMT, the project will introduce a simultaneous representation of the emirate, allowing planners, engineers, experts, and users from the public and private sectors to explore the emirate’s development in 3D and evaluate vast amounts of data.

In addition, the project provides policymakers, experts and experts with accurate data and metrics for planning and operations across all key sectors. It said it would provide spatial analysis tools to help analyze the impact of various urban planning options in order to make appropriate planning decisions within each.

In its statement, DMT said it developed a complete visual representation of the building’s structure and other assets by integrating the project’s output with multiple systems.

It also ensures the continuity of updated data, including real estate systems on lease contracts, lease indicators, buying and selling indicators, urban space and community facilities, building permits, asset management, address and town planning, business permits, service information, it added. , community facilities and inspections.
