Tawas East – The Tawas Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) is pleased to announce that plans are underway for the 2023 Purchville USA Winter Festival, scheduled for the first weekend of February.
TACC Executive Director Samantha Duvall added that she is pleased to report that Jerry Malone will once again be coordinating the festival with those from the conference hall.
In addition to currently seeking nominations for Perchville royalties, as well as vendors for the home fair, the beginning of things will be the return of the “Paint a Perch” contest.
The competition is a new event for 2022, and Duvall said the community really enjoys participating. She noted that more than 100 people attended last year, so TACC hopes to start the event earlier in 2023, with more details to be announced in the near future.
Participants will be able to stop by the Tavas Bay Art Gallery in East Tavas to paint one of the wood perches on site, or they can take it home to paint. The pieces will then be on display during the Perchville Coronation Breakfast and Royal Feast events, where guests can vote for their favourite.
A Coronation Breakfast will take place on Saturday, January 29, 2023, ahead of the upcoming 73rd Annual Purchville Weekend in February. The festival itself will begin with the Royal Feast on Thursday 2nd February and will run through the weekend to Sunday, 5th February 2023.
Perchville royal nominations are now being accepted through TACC and candidates are expected to demonstrate generosity in the Tawas community through outstanding volunteerism and leadership. Nomination forms are available at the TACC office at 228 Newman Street, East Tavas, and email Duvall: Director@tawas.com Or call the office at 989-362-8643.
The Home Fair portion of the festival is also looking for booth vendors. Vendors will decorate booths, host games and offer prizes for children. According to a TACC representative, this is not only a great way to advertise a business, but also a great way to be part of the traditions of a great community.
The fair will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2023, tentatively from 11 am to 4 pm.Anyone interested in participating should email coordinator Christina Aller at christinaaller80@gmail.com.
