The spectacle of another unpopular prime minister being ousted underscores how volatile British politics has become since the 2016 Brexit referendum sparked a battle for the country’s direction.

As for Truss, she will go down in history as the shortest-serving prime minister, succeeding George Canning, who held the post for 119 days when he died in 1827.
Truss’ swift demise was just the latest round of unrest to hit Westminster – prompting many Conservative MPs to openly despair over the state of Britain’s most successful party.
Asked if they could recover from it, one lawmaker replied: “Not in a million years.” The main opposition Labour Party and many voters called for a general election.
Kelly Rodgers, 50, told Reuters outside Downing Street: “She wasn’t voted, of course, the policy decisions she made, not a single Brit asked for any of that. “So (this) she should go. Right.”
“But again, she’s just a symbol of her party – it’s an absolute mess.”
