UAE beat Namibia to send Netherlands into Super 12

[ad_1]

Geelong: United Arab Emirates won their first match at the Twenty20 World Cup on Thursday, beating Namibia by seven points and sending the Netherlands to the Super 12 stage.

If the Africans win, they will join Sri Lanka in the next round, not the Dutch, but despite this, the UAE limited them to 141-8 as they won by 149.

Zahoor Khan and Basil Hameed took two wickets each as UAE cut Namibia to 69-7 in the 13th, before David Weise’s late fireworks (55 of 36 balls) A tense finale is established.

Emirates captain Chundangapoyil Rizwan won the toss and opted to bat, but struggled against an attack led by pacemaker Ruben Trumpelmann, a key player in Namibia’s second-round tie 12 months ago.

Backed by veterans Wiese, Bernard Scholtz, JJ Smit and Jan Frylinck, they limited UAE openers Muhammad Waseem and Vriitya Aravind to 39 in the opening eight rounds.

As the pressure builds, Aravind (21) finds the edge near Scholtz, dropping the first wicket.

Waseem began to open the bat to move the scoreboard and, with Rizwan in the company of him, hit his fifth T20 in half a century on 40 balls.

But he was gone after two balls, delivering Ben Shikongo to the third man to Trumpelmann’s safety.

They hit triple figures in the 15th before Alishan Sharafu (4), Rizwan (43 not out) and Basil Hameed (25 not out) pushed them to a respectable total, looting 33 from the last two innings Second-rate.

In response, Namibia lost their opener early, with Stephen Balder taking the ball from Junaid Siddiq and Ahmed Raza before Michael van Lingen was caught on the ropes.

They left 16-2 after three rounds and their jobs were cut, which did not come when Jan Nicol Lofti-Eaton left the lbw after two rounds to hand India-born Hameed the second wicket. It doesn’t get any easier.

Karthik Meiyappan scored a hat-trick against Sri Lanka on Tuesday when skipper Gerhard Erasmus was batted by Karthik Meiyappan, who was knocked out by JJ Smit as Namibia thrashed 46-5.

Zahoor Khan then removed the dangerous Jan Frylinck with three balls from yorker and Zaner Green, leaving Namibia staring into the abyss in the 13th.

But Weiss never gave up and teamed up with Trumelmann (not 25) to start using some force to save his country, reducing the goal to 20 in the last two rounds, only to fall short.
