‘Naagin’ singer to perform at a venue in Dubai Sports City on Saturday 22 October
This won’t be the first time Bollywood singer Akasa Singh has celebrated India’s grand Diwali festival away from home. About six or seven years ago, when Akasa was still in college, she joined a performance band who were stationed in a hotel far from home. Desperate Akasa called the reception to ask for some matches to light “diyas” only to be reminded that it was not allowed in the hotel room.
Fast forward to 2022, and Akasa is leaving again during Diwali, this time in Dubai, where she attends the huge Diwali Mela, celebrating the festival of lights with the audience.
“I’m not sad at all this year,” Akasa told City Times during a visit to Khaleej Times offices ahead of a concert at Dubai Sports City Plaza @ISD on Saturday, October 22. “I took this home with me.”
Akasa just felt like she didn’t leave the house this time because she was so “excited” about the concert and celebrating Diwali doing everything she loved.
And Akasa as a person felt like she (and the band) might have been overprepared because they couldn’t speculate on upcoming audience behavior. “We don’t know if they (the audience) just want to dance or sit and enjoy the show,” she said. “So me and my band are ready for pretty much everything.”
She said that at Akasa’s concert, everyone had to go all out and be crazy. That’s about it Nagin The singer is looking forward to the crowds at the event this Saturday, which is free to attend from 4 p.m.
In 2016, Akasa hit the limelight with her breakthrough song Kheech Meri Photos from the movie Sanan Teri Kassam. Since then, she has worked on many acoustic albums and released many singles, most notably Nagin, thug ranjaand Shringarher latest release with Astha Gill and Raftaar as co-singers.
Apart from her musical work, the singer has also appeared on the popular Indian reality show big boss as a contestant on the 15th edition of the show.
Growing up, Akasa did not receive any significant formal musical training. Instead, she feels it’s something passed down from her father, who is also a singer (Akasa shared an Instagram video with her father in which the two sing together). Her brother Asa Singh is also a singer and tours with Akasa. Meanwhile, her mother was a Kathak dancer.
“So it’s all in the family,” she said. “When I was growing up, I always looked at my dad as a rock star, fascinated the audience and made them dance. For me, it’s been normal since very early on. So maybe that’s why I want to , ‘This is what I want to do.'”
