Farnek completes carbon footprint assessment of UAE printers

[ad_1]

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: UAE-based leading smart and green facility management (FM) company buttocksRecently completed a corporate carbon footprint assessment for the UAE based printer Oriental Press.

Measuring CO2e emissions is the initial phase of the project, which involves comprehensive data mapping and classification of all of its existing printing operations. These include energy and fuel consumption, purchased materials such as substrates, printing plates, inks, IPA, blankets, packaging and auxiliary materials, upstream and downstream transportation, and other supply chain categories.

Through cutting-edge software provided by independent third parties, Farnek is able to calculate CO2e emission standards for the East in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Enterprise Value Chain (Scope 3) and ISO 14064 using consumption data and recognized scientific databases for measuring emission factors.

Farnek calculated the carbon footprint of all of Orient’s business activities in Dubai for the full year January 2021 to December 2021 using an operational control approach. This yielded 18,864 tonnes of CO2e, of which Scope 1 (direct emissions) accounted for 5.3% of the total, Scope 2 (indirect emissions) – 12.2% and Scope 3 (all other emissions) – 82.5%.

Commenting on the results, Nadia Ibrahim, Associate Director of Consulting and Sustainability at Farnek, said: “Oriental Press’s largest source of emissions comes from its raw material, paper substrate, which accounts for 51.9% of its CO2e emissions, while electricity consumption accounts for 51.9% of its emissions. %. Only 12.2% of total carbon emissions.

“Upstream and downstream transportation of the goods they buy and products delivered to customers account for 8.73% of total carbon emissions, while refrigerant leaks account for 4.95% of total carbon emissions.

“Eastern Press is committed to reducing, reusing and recycling the waste it generates, and now over 92% of its waste is recycled.”

As part of its ongoing sustainability commitment, Oriental Press is already using FSC and PEFC certified paper as well as other certificates, 100% recycled grey board, vegetable based inks, water-based glues and alcohol-free fountain solutions.

Completing their carbon footprint assessment is the first step towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Through this comprehensive assessment, the main emissions hotspots where Oriental Press will now drive its decarbonization efforts have been identified.

“Reducing emissions from our existing resources is a priority on our net zero roadmap,” said Mohamed Al Zeera, Managing Director of Oriental Press.

To reduce carbon emissions associated with electricity consumption, Oriental Press plans to conduct an in-depth energy audit of its production facilities to identify major energy-consuming assets and implement energy-saving measures to further reduce energy consumption, followed by a transition to renewable energy.

“Our decarbonisation plan will be an ongoing process and will remain an integral part of our corporate strategy. Farnek also recommends setting short, medium and long term targets, mainly because some measures can be implemented quickly and others It may take time and require significant capital investment, which requires planning and budgeting,” added Al Zeera.
