Damian Lewis is ‘physically exhausted’ following the death of his wife Helen McCrory.
The actress died of breast cancer in April 2021 at the age of 52, and Damian admitted to feeling “annihilated” after her death.
He shared: “For four or five months, your body has been exhausted. Helen has been sick for four and a half years.
“They say the first day you’re diagnosed with a potentially terminal illness is your first day of grief.”
Damian, 51, actually found himself in a “semi-grief” state while his wife was still alive.
The actor also recalled living in fear of the situation.
He told the Guardian: “When the person is alive, you are in a state of semi-grief because there is always a feeling that at any time something can go wrong.”
Damian actually wrote an album inspired by his late wife. But the actor wasn’t sure about his musical talent.
He shared, “I could have been a musician. And I ended up trying to be a musician. I don’t know if I’d be a good musician.”
Damian recently admitted that he exposed himself to potential ridicule by recording an album.
“We’ve put together a bunch of songs, and there’s been talk of trying to record some in the studio … to see if there’s something out there that people might want to hear,” he said.
Damian is fully aware that he might get ridiculed for his music.
He said: “Of course when I put my head on the railing they would line up to take pictures because no one is an easier target than an actor who thinks he can be a musician.
“But I don’t want to leave to be a great jazz star, pop star or rock star.
“I’m an actor. I want to keep my discipline. But for me, it’s unbelievable value.
“It’s so funny, what we don’t do well in this country is that we don’t cross-fertilize across different arts, which is a big shame. So I need some push or shove.”
