CHARLOTTE – JazzArts Charlotte will present the rare Duke Ellington and Billy Strehorn adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite for the holiday season.
The largest show in JAZZ ROOM’s nine-year history, this show features the all-star 16-member Charlotte Area Jazz Orchestra, a dynamic ensemble of modern jazz dancers and singers.
These JAZZ ROOM holiday edition performances will be held at the Booth Theater in Uptown Charlotte on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, December 8-10.Reserved seat tickets start at $38 and are available at www.theblumenthalarts.org.
Duke Ellington’s reimagined interpretations include “Sugar Rum Cherry” and “Peanut Crisp Brigade.” The show will also include holiday favorites like “The Night Before Christmas” and guest appearances by the Jazz Arts All-Star Youth Orchestra.
“JazzArts Charlotte has been envisioning this special performance for years and is excited to finally make it happen,” said JazzArts Charlotte President Lonnie Davis. “Based on Ellington’s work, this stage show creates a modern, jazzy take on a timeless holiday classic that the whole family will love!”
As part of the event, the JAZZ ROOM Holiday Edition is the Charlotte Jazz Academy’s only annual benefit, with a pre-concert dessert reception and silent auction in support of the Jazz Academy, performance programming and local musicians. Reception starts at 6:30 and shows start at 7:30 every night.
