The ratings for ABC, NBC and CBS evening news broadcasts dropped slightly each week. However, the year-over-year trend was worse.
ABC World News tonight with David Muir It has beaten the evening news competition from NBC and CBS 205 times in average total viewership over the past 206 weeks, and 134 times over the past 136 weeks among adults aged 25-54.
According to Nielsen’s live data for the week of Oct. 31, “World News Tonight” averaged 7.84 million linear viewers, the second-largest audience for any U.S. TV show, excluding sports. This figure represents a -2% drop From the previous week (October 24th). ABC’s evening newscasts averaged nearly 1.3 million adults aged 25-54 this past week, which is less than -1% from the previous week. Overall newscast audiences also dropped -2% and -8% compared to adults aged 25-54 The same week a year ago (November 1, 2021).
After weeks of viewership growth, NBC Nightly News and Lester Holt Viewership dropped slightly. The second-ranked evening newscast averaged 6.6 million linear viewers last week, down -1% from the previous week. Nightly also has an average of 1.12 million adults aged 25-54 online, which is just under -1% from the previous week. However, compared to the same period last year, NBC’s nightly news shows saw a -4% decline in total viewership and A25-54 viewers saw a -9% decline, as all three nightly news programs continued to see year-over-year declines in viewership.
Full weekday episodes of NBC Nightly News averaged 743,000 views and 582,000 views last week, according to Adobe Analytics and Partner Portal and YouTube Analytics Portal.
CBS Evening News Nora O’Donnell The average total viewership over the past week was over 4.78 million. This is -1% lower than the previous week and -5% lower than the same period last year. Additionally, the Evening News averaged 789,000 adults ages 25-54 over the past week, which is less than -1% compared to the previous week but -14% compared to the same time last year.
