Dylan van Baarle rejects UAE Ineos to join Jumbo-Visma

After winning Paris-Roubaix this spring, Dylan Van Baaler Is the man of the moment in the rider market.

The Dutch driver revealed in an interview with Dutch media that he was sought after by Ineos Grenadiers and Emirates Emirates before deciding to join Treasure Wisma on a three-year contract.

That’s what you’re doing.”

Van Baaler has reached a new level over the past few seasons, winning silver at the 2021 Road World Championships and winning Roubaix and finishing second at the 2022 Tour of Flanders.

Although the Emirates offered a contract extension with the Ineos Grenadiers, Van Baerle said he was lured by Jumbo-Visma in part because he rode with the team’s development team at the start of his career, but also because of his It’s Dutch and Jumbo-Visma is a Dutch team.

“At Jumbo-Visma, I feel a little bit ‘home’ now. If you’re Dutch, you also want to be part of such a well-structured top team in your own country,” Van Baal said. “I was already part of Rabobank’s training team and at the time I was working with trainer Mathieu Heijboer. I’m really curious what he can get out of me in the years to come.”

The arrival of Van Baarle will make Jumbo-Visma’s classic lineup as deep as any in the peloton.

In 2023 he will be in a strong block ahead of the Nord Classic with Wout van Aert, Christophe Laporte and Tiesj Benoot.

“With the likes of Wout van Aert, Christophe Laporte and Tiesj Benoot, there is a team that can make its mark in these games,” Van Baaler said. “I think such a strong collective increases my chances of winning the classics. The important thing is that you get to the final with more people. At Jumbo, you have that guarantee because there are at least five drivers available for the final.”

Van Baarle said that racing with perennial favorite Van Aert would only be a plus.

“I don’t think it’s a disadvantage. Most importantly, Wout is not alone. That was the case last spring, outside of E3 Harelbeke,” Van Baarle said. “Having a collective majority will be key for us to win those great classics. My weakness is my sprint, but my strength is that I know how to win games differently.

“After Roubaix, I discussed the role division again with Jumbo’s team management,” he said. “We knew Walter was the leader, but even after Roubaix, he was still very enthusiastic about my presence. It gave me the belief that we are stronger together and that we can use that power together.”
